December 2014

Big Island Ukulele Guild
Minutes of December meeting 12/06/2014

Aloha BIUG members. We held our final meeting of the year Saturday at Woodley’s house/shop in Na’alehu.

During the meeting, election of new officers was held. Woodley White was elected as president, Bryan Luker as vice-president and Tom Russell as treasurer and webmaster. I will stay on as secretary.

Dave Stokes will coordinate our 2015 exhibit at the Wailoa Center in Hilo and is seeking Hilo side members to help him out. The Wailoa exhibit cost the guild about $700, of which nearly half was covered by donations thanks to Bob Gleason’s efforts. Bob deserves a big round of applause for his years of service coordinating the show. Dave Stokes has big shoes to fill! You can contact Dave direct at honudiver@gmail.com.

Gary Cassel will continue to coordinate any future Kona side exhibits, including the Kahilu Theatre display. Because the two exhibits almost bump up against each other, the guild is looking for any suitable Kona side venues for a show, to be held earlier each year. If you have any thoughts about this, please let us know.

We will post photos from the Kahilua Theatre exhibit shortly.

Tom Russell has removed the little-used Forum feature from the BIUG webpage, but plans another way for members to share information. He’ll be in contact with members soon to discuss this.

Our dues are increasing modestly in 2015 and will now be $30 – still a bargain. Tom will send out an email about how to pay it, along with some other membership information.

The 2015 meetings are tentatively set for the first Saturdays of March and June, the last Saturday of August and the first Saturday of December.

Our first workshop of 2015 will be the tenon and mortising jig that Tom and I worked up and displayed at an earlier meeting. We’d like to schedule it in late January or early February. Tom will coordinate this with members, including cost of materials.

Finally, it has been my pleasure to serve the guild as president or vice-president for the past several years. Mahalo nui loa for the opportunity. Chris

Chris Stewart, BIUG Secretary
