Aloha BIUG members. We had a great turnout Saturday, May 7th, for Crist Pung’s excellent ‘Intro to Inlay’ workshop in Tom Russell’s Kona shop. Nearly 20 builders watched Crist’s lecture presentation and inlay demonstration on a large projection screen, allowing members a close up view of Crist’s secrets for creating ukulele art.
Following a lunch break, the second half was devoted to a hands-on workshop using Corian samples to create colorful Japanese koi fish. Participants worked with paper patterns, cutting them into pieces, before super gluing them onto the Corian squares. Using jeweler’s saws, the pieces were cut out and then assembled into the final creation.
Tom, Terry Davis and Leo Koschella worked hard in preparation for the workshop, including installing extra lighting and fans in Tom’s shop. And Tom’s computer expertise came in handy with the video presentation. A big shout out to Crist, Tom, Terry and Leo for a wonderful experience!
A follow-up workshop is currently under development with a tentative class date in the summer.
