Kanikapilas on the Island


Please drop in to any of these classes or kanikapila’s around the Big Island.  Contact info listed when available.

  • Monday Mornings 
    Teri Stewart conducts a beginners ukulele class every Monday from 10am-11am at Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park. Rance Pinao leads a kanikapila at the same time and location."
  • Wednesday Evenings
    From 6-7:30 pm MeleOhana, also known as the Kona Ukulele Club, meets at the Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona. (808) 329-7878. Group leaders are Jack and Janie Knight. MeleOhana plays almost exclusively Hawaiian and hapa haole music.
  • Thursday Mornings  
    From 9:30-11 am, a ukulele group led by Alan Hale and Anne-Marie Lambert, meets at the West Hawaii Civic Center rotunda located at 74-677 Kealakehe Pkwy in Kona.  For directions, call (808) 498-4987. The group plays some Hawaiian music, but also pop and rock tunes.  Please bring your own chair.
  • Thursday Mornings 
    Rance Pinao leads a kanikapila every Thursday from 10 am-3:30 pm - also at Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park.
  • Friday Afternoons
    Keoki Kahumoku offers free ukulele lessons at the Naalehu Methodist Church 3:30 pm Fridays
  • Saturday Mornings (1st Saturday of the month only)
    Richard Bodien of the Hawi Art Gallery & Ukuleles hosts this kanikapila on the 1st Saturday of the month at 2:30. Novices welcome and loaner uke’s available.  Bring a chair and music stand if possible.  Event is held at the Hawi Gallery, 55-3406 Akoni Pule Highway.   • Saturday Afternoons (bi-weekly)
    Andy Andrews holds a Kanikapila every other Saturday at 2:30 pm at the Leilani Estates Community Center Building in Puna.  He also holds a beginners and intermediate ukulele class prior to this at 1:00 pm.  Loaner uke's and songbooks are available.  It's best to sign up for Andy's newletters to know when the next kanikapila will be held as it's "every other Saturday but not always" :)
